This week, the Juniors in Room G17 will begin their new unit on Modernism. The modernist time period occurs roughly between World War I and World War II, and the art and literature produced during this time was revolutionary in content and style. Students will learn about the historical events that resulted in a shift in human nature, ultimately impacting the literature of the era. After learning the background of the time period, students will begin applying their knowledge through poetry study. Students will study a few modernist poems, considering how the time period might have impacted the style and content. Ultimately, students should be able to answer: How does this text reflect the time period from which it came?
Students should continue their reader’s workshop reading and article of the week annotation and response this week.
