This week, the Juniors in Room G17 will continue their reading of The Great Gatsby. We’ll start the week by concluding our notes about the historical context of the novel, and we’ll return to Chapter 3 to closely read select passages.
Students will continue their work with language as they notice and mimic style in mentor sentences, and they will have class time to work on their reading of Chapters 4 and 5, which will be due Monday. Students will learn about Lacan’s mirror stage, and we will consider its application to the text. We will also continue our practice of film analysis as we watch Chapters 3 and 4 in the Luhrmann version of the film.
Parents, how can you help?
- Help your child understand the significance of historical context. In 100 years, what will those who study history think is significant about our time period?
- Check your child’s grades with him or her. We have a few weeks left of the quarter. What will your child do to improve or maintain this third quarter grade?
