Juniors: Continuing our Study of Civil Disobedience

After a successful week of research and presentations, the Juniors of Room G17 are ready to turn their research into writing. Students will consider the conflicts discussed in class and will try to identify a solution that begins addressing the problems leading to the conflict. Students will also review our study of Thoreau’s “Civil Disobedience” and read an e.e. cumming’s poem on the same topic. Toward the end of the week, we will transition to the Transcdentalist idea of self-reliance, as we read an excerpt from his text.

Parents, how can you help?

  • Engage in discussion with your child. What societal problems seem to lead to conflicts between minority civilians and police officers? What are some ways we can address these problems?

We will be spending two class periods on readers workshop this week because our projects went long last week. Check in with your child about what they’re reading in their choice book.
